A man in deadvlei

Deadvlei

I remember vividly what vusithembekwayo said during Fela Durotoye speakercorners FDat50 series: he said magic always happened away from the limelight …there is a process.

I could completely relate!

I went on a fam trip to Namibia a few months ago and recently cmdtours posted a picture I took in deadvlei, the picture which attracted a lot of compliments. People were in admiration about the dress, the location I just kept smiling…”there is a process”

Here is the story..

Toc toc toc it was 5am and somebody was knocking at my hotel room oga I want to sleep! The knock persisted. Have I forgotten to put the do not disturb sign at the door???? Then the person shouted we are leaving! Leaving nke? Then the reality down on me as I was trying to fully wake up: am here for work. so we were hosted by namibiatourismboard early in the morning we had to go to deadvlei and honestly is a place I have been dreaming of .so, of course, I won’t just wear any kind of dress, but thanks to aunty viviane 3ks_place for bringing my dream alive…oh yes for that day our itinerary says 5am departure for deadlvei. Oga tour operator you forgot?!! That’s how I jumped out of the bed I didn’t bathe, I just brush my teeth, and quickly wash my face! YES!

We hit the road cause we needed to catch the sun rising we drove for about an hour, after which the car was park at a Designated place, cause no car is allowed beyond there. And am like excuse me, sir, plz how do we get there? and the guide said we have to trek and he quickly added ‘take everything you will need, don’t forget your water’.

All the beautiful pictures I had seen of deadvlei nobody mentioned the trekking that comes with it..I carried my luggage on my head and the trekking on the dunes started. Deadvlei is surrounded by the highest sand dunes in the world walking through was like making history.

I can’t remember now how many times I felt like giving up though…whaaaaaaaaat !

I wasn’t prepared for this .aaaah what kind of suffering is this? please on top picture .I quickly noticed every time I was stopping to start again was wahala. I needed to keep the momentum.

cest pas facile

Sometimes I will hear the guide’s voice shouting ‘straight! straight!! straight!!!’ or when we were deviating he will say left or right. Uncle calm down it’s not that easy na. as I was battling with my thoughts I heard someone saying we look like our husband chase us from

home we dey go our papa house. so the ambiance were good we kept walking at

some point I will run fufu will say please wait for me na aunty how. My eyes were focused on chefstoneofficial how the guy kept going and left all of us behind I don’t know..I was sha using him as motivation!

After like what seems an eternity walking on the dunes we got to a high point where deadvlei was at our feet. we could see the white clay pan, the remaining of the dead trees that are believed to have died 600 to 700 years ago tough, not petrified.

I took some minutes to look and marvel at this natural wonder! The view is surreal, it’s pittoresque and picturesque.I am yet to see a picture that does justice to this place .there are feeling you can’t describe seeing deadvlei is one of them! It’s not overrated! I think at least once in a lifetime one should have this kind of experience. See the magnificence of God. The sun rising in its majesty made that place looks surreal and I understood why nobody mentioned the stress.it’s worth it! In fact, I couldn’t remember what I went through.

Little wonder deadvlei is nominated 8th wonder of the world. @namibiatourismboard
